"Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things
up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone
else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real.”
Nora Ephron
Cabilla, Bodmin
29th April - 3rd May 2027

Join us on 29th of April 2027 for four days of reading and relaxation at Cabilla Cornwall, a magical retreat venue set in ancient woodland located on the edge of Bodmin Moor.
This is one of our Well Read retreats, a multi-faceted experience that combines reading with the opportunity to refresh and replenish your body. Immerse yourself in nature among the ancient oak trees, enjoy daily Pilates sessions and melt away your cares in the wood-fired sauna by the pristine Bedalder river.

Accommodation
You will be staying in one of the Koyts, beautiful wooden cabins nestled in a glade among the trees. The Koyts are equipped with luxuries including organic cotton linens, Bramley toiletries and a log burner but they are also off-grid, enabling you to step away from the distractions and worries of everyday life and focus on reading and reconnecting with nature. Please note the Koyts do not have their own toilet facilities - the bathrooms are located in the main barn just a short stroll away.
*The forest is always happy to accommodate the odd wild wee!
Communal Space
You will have access to the Barns, beautiful open plan spaces that house the kitchen where Helen will be preparing delicious, nourishing food made from fresh local ingredients, and the studio space where Christen will be teaching your Pilates classes. There’s a huge communal dining table for convivial meals, comfortable spaces for reading and relaxing, and modern well-appointed bathrooms with monsoon showers and underfloor heating.

The Great Outdoors
Cabilla is home to a rare temperate rainforest and is officially designated as ancient oak woodland. During our retreat, the woods will be carpeted with thousands of native bluebells. The land slopes down to the river Bedalder, one of the few rivers in the UK with water clean enough to bathe in and drink. Cabilla falls within one of the UK’s few dark sky environments, free from light pollution, so at night you'll be able to gaze upon an abundance of stars. You will also have the option to explore rugged and wildly beautiful Bodmin Moor.
