Our February Reading Party takes place at Prussia Cove, one of the most magical stretches of coastline in West Cornwall.
You will spend five nights in a beautiful Victorian house overlooking the sea where you can meet fellow readers and curl up in front of a roaring fire with a good book.
Take a blustery walk along the South West Coast Path or even brave a bracing swim.
Accommodation
You will be staying in The Haven, built in 1885 as a home for the former Archdeacon of Bodmin. The house stands in a commanding position above Bessy’s Cove and has spectacular views across the bay towards The Lizard. There are seven bedrooms, offering a combination of shared and single occupancy, and three bathrooms plus a wet room.
The Haven has a wonderfully nostalgic vibe, think 1930s, Daphne du Maurier, Camomile Lawn, Agatha Christie even the Famous Five! This is not a sleek modern holiday home. While offering everything you need, it almost feels like you're stepping back in time. There's no better way to switch off.

Communal Space
The Haven is an imposing three storey Victorian house with lots of space to roam. There is a large cliff top garden with a lower terrace and incredible coastal views, all just four minutes from the beach.
There’s a large sociable kitchen where Helen will be preparing your delicious, nourishing food as well as a communal dining room and cosy living room with open fires.
The huge bay windows on the ground floor offer far-reaching sea views cross to the Lizard coastline.
The Haven lends itself to both quiet reflection and socialising with like-minded book lovers.
The Great Outdoors
The Haven is located just above the South West Coast Path and is ideally placed for exploring Prussia Cove and the surrounding coastline. There will be an opportunity to join in a guided walk and plenty of time to explore nearby Marazion, Penzance and St Ives which are all within easy striking distance by car.
History
Today the Porth-en-Alls estate and coastline are privately owned but during the late 18th century, Prussia Cove and the surrounding rocky inlets formed the centre of a flourishing smuggling enterprise led by the infamous Carter brothers. In fact it takes its name from John Carter, known by his nickname The King of Prussia. The brothers built slipways, roads and even defences to facilitate their illegal activities. You can still see the tracks cut through the rocks where they wheeled their contraband.
Prussia Cove isn't a single cove but a series of four situated between Praa Sands and Perranuthnoe: Coule's, King's, Bessy's and Piskies. The largest and most accessible one, often called Prussia Cove, is actually Bessy's Cove. With its sheltered location and a pebble beach at low tide, it's a great spot for swimming. It's also home to a few small fishing boats and there's a crumbling fishermen's hut overlooking the slipway.
Prussia Cove has featured in Ladies in Lavender starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. In Summer in February, the film starring Dan Stevens and Dominic Cooper.

*All above prices are based on single occupancy, however if you'd like to share a room with a friend or partner a £500 supplement will apply.
Please note that bathrooms are shared. There is one on the ground floor (with shower), two on the first floor (baths only) and a shower room also on the first floor.
